I've also had several lock-ups which required a forced shutdown. The first was undocking, the second was trying to enter warp.
I edited info.plist to point to a clean preferences folder. The only preference I modified was to set the video to run at interval one, running in windowed mode, in order to keep my processor temperature at a normal level. I tried HDR but my in-station frame rate went from 17 to 7 FPS so I turned it back off before leaving a station.
I'm using an MBP at the minimum recommended stats in this post but with 2GB of memory and plenty of hard disk left.
I'll be posting specific graphic artifacts as bugs shortly.
Now that I've had a taste of premium graphics I don't want to go back to classic. |

Filed another bug about overview icons and text not rendering correctly. If I'm looking towards the sun they're fine but when looking away they look like they've been hit by a shotgun, lots of random transparent pixels.
Session changes in space might be the trigger for the freezes. The Beta doesn't like it when I go into warp very much.
But, my Orca looks mighty fine in premium. If only they were 100 ISK on Tranquility too. Do all ships bob around like they're on water in stations or is it because I'm in a Minmatar outpost?

Originally by: Reyn Atriedes I uninstalled and then reinstalled and now I'm getting the same results as if I didn't even uninstall and reinstall (hopefully defaulting the settings).
Nothing in the application itself should be changing. You shouldn't have to reinstall unless you've modified the application bundle itself. To fully reset any settings just trash the preferences. Just remove the folder at:
[your home directory]/Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences -- if you haven't modified which preferences folder to use!
I would think sharing the preferences between your normal client and the Beta would be a VERY bad thing. The instructions in the stickies for this forum has instructions for installing multiple clients.

Edited by: Rees Noturana on 15/01/2009 16:38:24 I commented here and filed a bug about constant freezes requiring a forced shutdown of the computer. It happened four or five times the first night I was testing. Anything that initiated a session change locked up my system.
My bug was rejected due to being incomplete so I read up on what they wanted and started testing again. Since then I haven't been able to lock up the system at all. That's pretty nice but I still wonder what was happening that first night.
Love the new graphics. No real performance increase but other than the known graphics bugs I don't want to go back to classic. Can't wait for March. |

Originally by: jinkoti boslin2 I would really like to knwo that CCP were at least trying to make this client compatible with the 10.4.11 os. I know its way past update time for some of us mac users.. but the cost of a graphics card pales in comparison to updating things like ableton and reason etc...
I know its not the optimal solution but partitioning your drive or using a second one for Leopard might be an option for you. The under the hood improvements in Leopard and Snow Leopard really appeal to developers. Staying with Tiger, except for your audio work, its going to get tougher for you. Some people go so far as to run Vista or XP just for Eve. Personally I'd have to be pretty desperate to taint my system that way but that's just because I use XP all day for work. |

Originally by: Tamalane Sevnir Tried it on a latest-generation 15" MBP with a 9600M GT at 512RAM. I didn't have much time to fiddle with it, but three quick impressions:
1. Windowed mode is still not an option regardless of resolution. 2. It heats up the computer like nothing else. With smc locking fans to the max 6200rpm it still ratcheted up to 92C within three minutes and would have gone higher if I didn't abort. That is wildly out of recommended CPU parameters. 3. The character portraits are missing shadows that appear normally in the XP version of the client.
1. CMD+Return for windowed or is there another problem? There's also a way to configure the client manually to automatically use windowed mode. Check in the stickies for this section.
2. Do you have the advanced graphics settings present interval set to one?
3. Character portrait shadows?

Originally by: HZAL ... annoying you still can't do window view though.
That's two comments now about no window view. The selection in the preferences window doesn't work because of how Cider is simulating the Windows environment but CMD+Return still flips you between windowed and non-windowed views. Check the stickies for instructions on setting the initial state in the config files. From what I can tell Eve isn't rewritten in any way for Mac. It runs in a simulation provided by Cider. So, you won't be seeing tweaks to the UI just for us.
Hope that helps.
What I would like is to know if there is some way to turn on anti-aliasing. Sounds like Windows users do that outside of the client but the Mac doesn't have any option to turn it on that I've seen. |

Originally by: SPACE L0RD I'm not even sure if CCP officially supports windowed mode for Mac client. Kind of a shame since right now, windowed mode seems to be the only option if you wish to play eve and still do other stuff for any length of time. There may be some limitation we are unaware of.
Its supported. There's even a knowledge base article on setting the config so it starts up that way:

Originally by: Dr Sheepbringer Oh crap... is the X1600 a 128mb or 256mb? Mine is 256mb and because I have tiger...then it's not just about upgrading to leopard for me. Damn it. So this is looking a bit grim. Our imacs currently don't work in either OS versions...
To find out how much VRAM you have use: System Profiler > Hardware > Graphics/Displays
The X1600 on my MBP is 128 MB and I've had pretty good luck other than the first night. The TransGaming guy mentioned earlier that there is a current issue with the X1600 that will cause the system to freeze and they are working on it.
